WEEK 4: REFLECTION

 Hello Everyone,

I started week 4 with reading. Jarek Krajka's article "Using the Internet in ESL Writing Instruction" really encouraged me to use the internet to develop students' writing skills.  Writing students’ description and ABCD objective with technological tool was less challenging this time. I found www.manythings.org and the specific URL www.biographyonline.net/humanitarian/florence-nightingale.html quite beneficial for teaching the biography of Florence Nightingale, which is included in Grade IX English textbook.

I went through Ying Qui’s suggested webpage http://a4esl.org and found it beneficial for building vocabulary and grammar skills through interesting activities like quizzes, crosswords. I am going to recommend it to intermediate level of students at my school.

As a part of project report, I selected one of the issues or problems with Grade IX students at my school i.e. “My students are not motivated or interested in doing their home assignments.” It may be because we have quite a traditional practice on assigning homework and correction.  I am looking for the way out!

Creating a lesson plan using technological tool was my first experience.  It was one of the challenging activities I felt this week. However, with the help of tips and advice, I have been able to complete it successfully.

Finally, I have learnt a lot from the interactive learning community and their experience.

Looking forward to learning more!

  1. I am pleased to meet you Kiran,

It seems all of have been very busy this week with the assignments, but at the same time everybody shows deep gratitude. I think every teacher somehow would like to find more commitment in his students and our mission consists in doing what you're saying: look for the ways out.

Congrats on the motivation you show in relation with the improvement of your teaching skills.

  2. Hi Kiran,
Your post has struck a chord with me as well - I face the same challenges.
I hope that technology will motivate our students and create stronger teacher-student bonding.
    Great blog,
